Machinists Custom Choices Worksite Benefits
|
Background
The Machinist Custom Choices program was developed in 1996 with the purpose of offering Machinists and their families an opportunity to purchase supplemental insurance products that are designed to fill gaps in the benefits provided by their employers through the Collective Bargaining Agreements. These gaps include out of pocket medical costs (deductibles, coinsurance, transportation and lodging costs, etc.), loss of income due to an injury or illness, or expenses that result from the death of a member or one of their family members.
Since those early days, the Machinist Custom Choices Worksite Benefits program has allowed members to provide more financial security for themselves and their families through a series of individual insurance products. The Life, Critical Illness, Accident and Disabilities insurance policies were custom designed for Machinists and negotiated with features and values based on the size of the IAMAW’s national membership.
The beauty of the program is that it allows members to select the benefits that are best suited for their own particular needs and fund those benefits through payroll deduction. All of the policies are fully portable, meaning members keep the same cost and benefits if they leave employment or retire. Premiums are then paid directly to the insurance company. As an added benefit, each policy contains a Strike Waiver of Premium provision, which keeps policies in effect in the event of a strike without paying any premium.
